  16. <p>     Customs: Visas and yellow fever innoculations are required
  17. for entry.
  18. </p>
  19. <p>     Climate and clothing: Except for the rainy season
  20. (June-October), the climate is similar to Arizona's. Summer
  21. clothing is suitable for Ouagadougou; a light wrap is
  22. recommended during the cool season (November-February).
  23. </p>
  24. <p>     Health: Local medical services are limited. Unwashed fruits
  25. and vegetables and undercooked meats are unsafe to eat. Tap
  26. water is not potable; bottled mineral water is available at
  27. hotels and restaurants. Malaria suppressants should be started 2
  28. weeks before arrival and continued 8 weeks after departure.
  29. Burkina has chloroquine-resistant malaria. Typhoid and gamma
  30. globulin (hepatitis) innoculations are recommended for travel in
  31. rural areas. Do not swim in lakes or streams, which may be
  32. infested with bilharzia. Health requirements change; check
  33. latest information.

  35. <p>     Transportation: Ouagadougou's international airport is
  36. served by several weekly flights from Paris, Abdijan, Niamey,
  37. Bamako, Dakar, Algiers, Moscow, and Tripoli. Air Burkina
  38. operates all year between the capital and other large towns in
  39. Burkina Faso, as well as to Niamey, Bamako, Lome, Cotonou, and
  40. Abidjan. Ouagadougou is linked by paved roads to Lome, Abidjan,
  41. Niamey and Bamako, and by rail to Abidjan. The uncertainty of
  42. road conditions complicates transportation elsewhere. Taxis are
  43. available in large towns.

  45. <p>     Telecommunications: Long-distance telephone service is via
  46. satellite. Cable, telex and FAX services are available. Cable
  47. and telex are more reliable. Ouagadougou is five standard time
  48. zones ahead of eastern standard time.
  49. </p>
  50. <p>     Tourist attractions: Although by international standards
  51. tourist facilities seem limited, Burkina Faso does present
  52. tourist opportunities for the adventurous traveler. Worthwhile
  53. visits include the National Museum and artisan centers in
  54. Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso, the Nazinga, Arly and Park W
  55. game preserves, and interesting market towns such as Gorom. For
